LC/MS/MS facility
The 4000 QTRAP® LC/MS/MS System is a Hybrid Triple Quadrupole/Linear Ion trap mass spectrometer.

Ideal for drug discovery and development, metabolite identification, contaminant testing, and proteomic applications including post-translationally modified proteins discovery, protein identification, and biomarker validation.
- Enables high-sensitivity full-scan MS, MS/MS, and MS3 with high-selectivity from true triple quadrupole precursor ion (PI) and neutral loss (NL) scans.
- Perform multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) for quantitation using high-sensitivity triple quadrupole.
- Identify, characterize, and quantitate metabolites more quickly and easily.
- Identify and sequence post-translationally modified (PTM) peptides automatically in a single LC/MS/MS run.
- Facilitates hypothesis-driven biomarker discovery and validation.

MALDI TOF-TOF facility (Under maintenance)
Bruker Ultraflex I MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometer can perform mass measurements of peptides, proteins, nucleic acids, and synthetic organic molecules at femtomole quantities. It is also capable of performing tandem mass spectrometry experiments for structural elucidation of organic molecules and sequence identification of peptides in support of proteomics research.

Application Details
High-success Protein Identification from 2D gels:
This equipment can be used for peptide mass fingerprinting, peptide fragment analysis and post-translational modifications (PTM) analysis. The ultraflex TOF/TOF enables high-throughput protein identification by MALDI-TOF peptide mass fingerprinting and protein characterization using MALDI-TOF/TOF tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Comprehensive MS/MS information will be available from minute sample amounts.
De novo sequencing:
The ultraflex TOF/TOF provides three MS/MS methods for de-novo sequencing:
1. LID-LIFT TOF/TOF MS
2. High-energy CID (collision-induced decomposition) is available as well.
Small molecule analysis:
Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Small Molecules Using Nano-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (NALDI) MS:
The use of a matrix restricts the analysis of small molecules that are below 600 Da. To analyze the small molecules without a matrix, we use NALDI technology. The NALDI target plate is layered with nano-structured coating, which serves as an active matrix-free surface for desorption/ionization of spotted samples. Once samples are dissolved in desired solvent, they are spotted directly on the NALDI plate and the plate is ready to be analyzed in the equipment.

Scanning Probe AFM Confocal Raman Microscope facility
The NTEGRA Spectra is our fully integrated solution to providing AFM Confocal Raman. The system is designed to provide detailed insight from a single platform, AFM, Confocal Raman Microscopy, Laser Fluorescence Confocal, Optical Microscopy, Near-field Scanning Optical Microscopy (NSOM) and Tip Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (TERS).
Following are the highlights in performance of this facility;
- High resolution SPM with small mechanical loop, providing low noise and thermal drift. The SPM instrument’s materials are matched to reduce drift from temperature gradients.
- The Spectra provides all possible known optical geometries; Upright (reflection), Inverted (transmission) and side illumination.
- The Spectra has full SPM capability with all of the advanced modes such as Kelvin Probe Microscopy (KPM), Electrostatic Force Microscopy (EFM) and Conductive AFM. You don’t have to comprise due to the optical setup.
- The system optics is designed into the instrumentation to reduce vibration and increase the resolution of our Confocal Raman and Laser Confocal images.
-
The Spectra Upright system uses a 100x objective with 0.7 NA; the Spectra Invert uses a 100x objective with 1.4 NA (immersion). These provides high resolution optical images and gives us the ability to see the exact location where the Raman laser, AFM probe and sample intersect with each other. You know exactly where you are collecting each signal from.
-
Our Spectra has 6 axes of motion, 3 axes for the AFM scanner, 3 axes for the Raman laser control, this allows us to move them independently of each other or to synchronize them while scanning the area of interest.
-
The 6 axes of motion are closed-loop controlled and synchronized. This provides AFM images, Confocal Raman images, Spectrums from the same area that correlate 1:1.
-
The Spectra is controlled by one PC for all functions with the Raman spectrometer and AFM. The system is fully automated so the user doesn’t have to manual adjust the Raman spectrometer (filters, pin holes, apertures, etc.).
-
The Spectra provides modularity for future upgrades. The Raman range can go from 440 to 1050 nm with the appropriate lasers. You can also operate both an upright and inverted configuration on the same spectrometer.
-
One company who can support the entire system, AFM and Raman. Our company employs both AFM and Raman experts. They design and support these systems. You don’t have to worry about piecing together a system from two different suppliers, who can only provide ½ of the support.

Supercritical Fluid Extractor
Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) Systems extract chemical compounds using supercritical carbon dioxide instead of an organic solvent. The supercritical fluid state occurs when a fluid is above its critical temperature (Tc) and critical pressure (Pc), when it is between the typical gas and liquid state. Manipulating the temperature and pressure of the fluid can solubilize the material of interest and selectively extract it. The sample is placed in an extraction vessel and pressurized with CO2 to dissolve the sample. Transferred to a fraction collector, the contents are depressurized and the CO2 loses its solvating power causing the desired material to precipitate. The condensed CO2 can be recycled.

SFE applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and fine chemical industries:
- Decaffeinating of coffee and tea
- Extraction of essential oils (vegetable and fish oils)
- Extraction of flavors from natural resources (nutraceuticals)
- Extraction of ingredients from spices and red peppers
- Extraction of fat from food products
- Fractionation of polymeric materials
- Extraction from natural products
- Photo–resist cleaning
- Precision part cleaning
